A young girl was washed by carers in a spa bath. A ceiling hoist is used to lift her out of her wheelchair and into the bath, however there was no suitable place to undress her, dry her or dress her. A mesh bath frame was purchased for use as a change table. The frame was mounted with hinges on the wall so that it rests on the bath edge when in use and folds flat against the wall when not in use. The frame has one hinged supporting leg and a rubber foot that sits securely on the bath. The girl's wheelchair sits under one end of the frame. Being light, the frame can be lifted quickly and easily while she is suspended in the hoist, before she is lowered into her wheelchair. Ref 99/011
A tall woman with quadriplegia stands at a tilt table several times a day. She wanted to be able to read whilst using the tilt table. Commercially available tables are not high enough. A tall moveable platform table, 1.3 m in height was made. The table top can be tilted through 90 degrees and has a strong locking mechanism. A 15mm ledge on three sides minimises spillage from the table top. An adjustable and removable book stand was made to fit on the table top. Four castors were fitted to the base with lock braking on the two back wheels. Ref T0/516
A woman who uses a wheelchair, works in an office. She had purchased a special document tray and she needed some way of attaching it to the wheelchair so she could move it around, but still keep her papers conveniently at hand. A swivel base and armrest was designed to support the document tray. This was fitted to the arm of the wheelchair so that the document tray could easily be moved around and yet stays horizontal. A young girl with intellectual disability has an enclosure made by TADVIC for her bed at home, but also needs a safe enclosed space for sleeping when she goes to stay with her respite carer. The portable bed needed to fold up for carrying in a car. The design incorporated folding panels to make an enclosure like a playpen to fit around a single bed mattress. Cubelock aluminium sections made up the frame with woven plastic mesh for the panels. The sections are stacked for transport on a car roof rack. Ref 98/242
5 year old girl with Down Syndrome is a restless sleeper, banging and thumping the wall which bruises her and disturbs the rest of the family. The wall was padded with thick, soft foam on the long side of the bed and behind the bed head. The fabric was divided into 5 compartments and foam slabs inserted inside each one to minimise sagging of the padding. Zips along the bottom of the padding allowed removal of the foam slabs for washing. A skirting of timber was made to attach the padding to the wall. The bright Bananas in Pyjamas fabric delighted the child and made bed a cosy safe place to be. Ref 95/134
A special school required a hinged extension to a change table so that it could also be used for physiotherapy. The extension to the change table was made of craft wood and upholstered to match the existing table. A stay support was required to hold the hinged extension out from the end of the change table and this folds down flat against the end of the when not in use. The extension is manually pinned in either the up position or down position. Ref T0/508
Young mother with multiple sclerosis had been in hospital and could not return home to care for her baby son until she could manage to lift him in and out of the cot from her wheelchair. The cot had to be modified to allow full access from the side and the wheelchair had to fit under the cot so she could reach the child. The cot was modified to allow one side to open horizontally on hinges at each end, like gates. The legs of the cot were extended to allow the wheelchair to fit underneath. The two gates could be opened to change the bed linen or one side only opened to lift the baby in and out of the cot. The two opening sections are locked to the cot base and also to each other A childproof latch will also be fitted to prevent the child operating the latches when he grows older. Ref T1/174
A young girl with cerebral palsy had outgrown her change table and her mother asked TADVIC to modify the table top. The new table top clips onto the folding table frame and has detachable sides. The three different sections have been upholstered for comfort and convenience. The castors were replaced and a bracket added to the base of the unit to provide extra stability. Ref T0/639
